Director’s Position
The Ideas Lab is a new business unit being established in the Northern Metropolitan Region. They have just advertised for the director’s position and are wondering if Ultranet Coaches across the state could pass it on to any people they know that might be suitable.
The link to the position on e-recruitment is http://jobs.careers.vic.gov.au/ and type in ‘director’ into the position title.
Ultranet Tender Update from DEECD – 26/05/08
Main Points
· The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development will develop a revised tender process for the Ultranet project after the response to the original tender was not accepted by the Department.
· The revised tender process will focus on the key priorities of learning and teaching and a parent portal.
·The project will still be delivered within the original budget and timeframe of Quarter 3, 2010.
· Schools are encouraged to continue preparing for the implementation of the Ultranet. The Department will continue to work with the 50 Ultranet coaches who are supporting schools to improve the use of ICT in the classroom.
Additional Information
·The Ultranet was announced in Labor’s Financial Statement as a $60.5 million project for Victorian government schools.
·The Ultranet is a student centred electronic learning environment that supports high quality learning and teaching, connects students, teachers and parents and enables efficient knowledge transfer.
· The objectives of the Ultranet project are to:
o Improve responsiveness to individual learning needs
o Provide better information to parents, the school system and Government
o Improve efficiency of the learning environment and school administration
o Adopt an enterprise approach to intranet development
o Exploit previous ICT investments.
· A tender process for the Ultranet has been underway since August 2007. The overall response from the market did not meet the Government’s criteria so the Department has been unable to nominate a successful tenderer. This decision has been made in the public interest to ensure value for money and the best long term outcome for Victorian government schools.
·The decision not to award a contract in any tender process is a legitimate and sometimes necessary outcome. The tender process met the Government’s key probity objectives, including integrity, impartiality and effective competition. In addition, it has been found that the project has been well managed to best practice standards.
· The Department recognises and encourages the significant progress schools are making in improving ICT infrastructure and use of ICT in the classroom in preparation for the Ultranet. This excellent work should continue as the ultimate goal has not changed.
